How long does a dental implant take to place?

The process for getting a dental implant is quite straight forward. You will first need to book an appointment with the dental team who will assess your tooth loss, oral health, including the condition of your gums and your general health. A 3D imagining scan may be required to get a better picture of what implant treatment is required.

The surgical process is the next step and can take as little as one hour for a staight forward implant to more than a few hours for more complex procedures. If you require a sinus lift to achieve better jaw bone density you will require more extensive surgery to get the desired results from dental implantation. After surgery you will be fitted with a temporary crown and the implant will be given time to heal in the jaw.

The healing process differs from person to person. The titanium implant needs to graft of fuse to the jaw and it can take as little as 6 weeks to 12 weeks. When the dentist thinks you are ready an abutment will be fitted to the top of the implant which will support the crown which will be cemented in place.

In summary depending on your health and the complexity of the surgery, fitting a dental implant can take bewtween 3 to 6 months.
